What We Do
Looking Ahead 2008 and Beyond
After ten very successful and busy years, the New Mexico Committee is undergoing a renewed strategic planning process that will address all facets of operations, restructuring to better serve New Mexico women artists and our mission. As part of our affiliation agreement with the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), located in Washington, D.C., our goal is to support and align the committee more closely with our museum.
With this objective in mind, the New Mexico Committee is very excited to sponsor and bring national and international exposure to two very talented New Mexico women artists, who will been exhibiting in D.C. at NMWA :
- Joan Myers, Photographer, NMWA “Women to Watch” exhibition from March 14 through June 15, 2008 .
- Tammy Garcia, Potter, solo exhibition in NMWA’s Ground Floor Gallery from September 2008 through February 2009.
The New Mexico Committee will continue having local events, mostly in northern New Mexico. If you wish to be invited, please contact us at:

Our Past Ten Years 1997 – 2007
statewide and national art exhibitions
From the States Exhibits. Periodically, we selected and delivered artwork by a prominent New Mexico woman artist to be displayed in the "From the States Gallery" at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, in Washington, D.C. Works by Colette Hosmer, Melissa Zink & Tammy Garcia were sent to the Women’s Museum between 1998 and 2004.
Juried Shows. We mounted independently juried art exhibitions. The first, in l999, was at the LewAllen Contemporary in Santa Fe. Originals 2001 took place at the Harwood Museum in Taos. Originals 2003 was held at the Albuquerque Museum and Originals 2005 was at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe. Originals 2007 was back in Taos at the UNM Harwood Museum and Millicent Rogers Museum. These shows were instrumental to New Mexico women artists gaining local and national exposure and new collectors.

sponsorship , lectures, educational programs
Sponsorship. In 2001 we contributed substantially to the "Carr, O’Keeffe, Kahlo—Places of Their Own" exhibition, curated by New Mexican scholar Sharyn Udall and mounted at the Museum of Fine Arts in Santa Fe. In 2002 we sponsored three works of art in the Arte Latino show also at the Museum of Fine Arts.
Lectures. In 2002 and 2003 we helped fund "Dialogue Among Peers," six summer lecture/discussion series showcasing New Mexico artists.
Education. We sponsored "Exploring Art," an art appreciation program for middle school children, utilizing materials from the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Materials from this program circulated to schools throughout this state in the Museum of New Mexico’s Van of Enchantment. This pilot program resulted in the National Museum of Women in the Arts receiving a federal grant to continue the program in selected, low income, Albuquerque, and Northern Virginia schools. In 2002-2003, $11,000 in educational grants were made for college level scholarships, museum internships and grants for public school teachers to support curricular units related to women in the arts as well as Art & Leadership lessons in elementary school classrooms.
